The Raise the Roof Luncheon for Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County is scheduled for April 27 at the Event Center in Gallatin from 11:30 am to 1 p.m.

Habitat has set a goal of $25,000 for the fundraiser to literally raise the roof for a new home for the Chuol family of eight. The goal is to have enough donated to get the house under roof.

Creekside Homes, LLC is sponsoring the event. There are 25 other sponsors on various levels of sponsorship. The Farmers Bank of Portland is also a sponsor of the event.

The cost of the luncheon is $55 per person. This represents the approximate cost to build one square foot in Sumner County.

Habitat hopes to sell 150 tickets. Ticket sales are open to the public and can be obtained by calling Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County at 615-452-9606. The deadline for tickets is Monday, April 25. Tickets can be picked up and paid for at will-call the day of the luncheon.

Executive Director Susan Johnson said, “This is the third annual year that Creekside Homes has sponsored the event. It started as a breakfast. We decided to do something different and have a luncheon.”

The luncheon will be both informational and inspirational. Contemporary Christian singer Cindy Morgan, who has won 12 Dove Awards, will provide the entertainment.

Christian entertainment is in keeping with the mission of Habitat. The stated mission is: “Seeking to put God’s love into action, we bring people together to build homes, communities and hope.”

The Chuol family build will require a six-bedroom house. Families have the opportunity to be involved in the location of their new homes. A family can postpone the build two times. Habitat is currently looking for a lot in Portland for this family, but has one lot in another city which is suitable for this family. Chuol works at Unipres Corporation in Portland.

Habitat is currently looking for building lots in Portland. Habitat houses must fit the neighborhood. Neighborhood requirements are met in Habitat builds.

Johnson said, “We look forward to this event every year, so we can showcase Habitat in the community. Habitat is doing well. We are looking forward to this summer when we start the Home Repair Program in June.”

Habitat is currently sponsoring an Apostles Build in Portland. Thirteen churches from around the county are building the home. Portland’s Celebration Church is a sponsor. This is the 50th build for the Sumner Habitat and the third house in Portland in three years.
