Dr. Del Phillips, Sumner County Director of Schools, is pleased to announce John Parker as the new principal/lead teacher at Sumner County’s Middle Technical College High School at Portland.
Parker is a product of Sumner County Schools, graduating from Gallatin High School. He has taught high school mathematics at Portland High School since 2005, where he served in several leadership capacities. He holds and Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Cumberland University.
Parker will be replacing Phillip Campbell, who is leaving Sumner County Schools to pursue other interests.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Middle Technical College High School,” Parker said. “I hope to enable students to continue their education and their training, which will help them be prepared for the workforce.
“I am very grateful for my time as a teacher at Portland High School and am looking forward to working with Career and Technical teachers across the district to help strengthen and grow this program.”
Dr. Phillips said Parker’s previous experience and leadership in the community made him the ideal candidate.
“He knows the Portland community well, and I am confident he will continue the successes started by Mr. Campbell,” Dr. Phillips said.
