Veterans open Vista Landscaping

Landscape design is what Michael and Carmen Lowery of Vista Landscape enjoy the most. (Submitted)

Vista Landscape Design Construction and Nursery has recently opened in the Portland community at 2160 Highway 76. The business is owned by Air Force veterans Michael and his wife of 30 years Carmen Lowery.

Michael has been doing this type of creative work for 26 years. His father was in the landscaping business, and he began working with his father as a young boy. When he and his wife completed their service with the Air Force they located in Columbia, S.C. and began a business there.

Carmen has worked as a floral designer and nursery grower for 26 years.

The Lowery’s moved to the area three years ago. They began looking for the perfect place for their business. They were looking for a farm home to remodel. They fell in love with the house with acreage on Highway 76.

“It was close to Nashville but not in the city of Nashville," he said. "We use the VA hospital and wanted to be close.”

The Lowery’s do all phases of landscape design including landscaping and hardscaping. Their services and products include irrigation, plantings, stonework, outdoor lighting, construction of pergolas, decks and pavilions. They can be scheduled for quarterly pruning and property cleanup.

The Lowery’s business serves Sumner, Robertson, northern Davidson Counties, and the surrounding areas. They have done work for several country music artists.

They are currently in the first stage of their concrete statuaries and container division of their business. They offer statuaries for yards and gardens, and have memorial statuaries to honor veterans, firefighters, police, and pets.

In addition to the statuaries, they are developing a nursery. They have a limited selection of hanging baskets this season. Next year they plan to offer a unique plant that is just beginning to be grown in this area which attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.

The business is open on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment. The business phone number is 615-796-7237.

“We’re happy to make Sumner County our home, and look forward to many years here meeting our neighbors and making new friends," he added. "We want to increase our local customer base.”
