Cumberland's men received votes in the NAIA men's soccer coaches' preseason top 25 poll released by the national office Wednesday morning.
Defending national champions Central Methodist claimed the No. 1 spot with 498 voting points and received all 18 first-place votes. Next was Missouri Valley at No. 2 with 482 voting points. William Carey came in at No. 3 with 464 points. Madonna grabbed the No. 4 spot with 445 voting points and Rio Grande rounded out the top five with 439.
The Mid-South Conference features two teams in the poll. Lindsey Wilson received the No. 17 ranking with 249 points. The Phoenix won the Mid-South Conference regular season a year ago received five voting points in the poll.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and unaffiliated groups.
The first regular season poll will out Sept. 11.
Cumberland will open its regular season Aug. 24 at Tennessee Wesleyan at 3 p.m. The Phoenix will begin their home schedule Aug. 27 vs. Fisk at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.
