Portland East girls’ basketball team dropped a loss to Ellis Middle school last Tuesday, 25-14. The game was a lot closer than the score reflects though as East kept the game close for 3 quarters, but would not be able to capture the lead in the fourth quarter and escape with a win.
Down at the half 13-9 Portland would have the opportunity to come out in the third quarter and get things back on track, but Ellis would maintain the lead going into the fourth quarter 21-14. “We responded in this game very well Ellis put a lot of pressure on us on the defensive side and we could not get enough baskets to fall,” Head Coach Scott Steinbrecher stated.
In the fourth quarter Ellis was able to clamp down on the Panthers and hold them scoreless to end the game. “They turned up the pressure on us in the fourth and held us to zero points, though I thought that we handled the pressure better than previous years,” Steinbrecher commented.
The leading scorers for the Panthers on the night were Madison Hall with 7 points, Madison Linville 4, and Eme Loza/ Rayleigh Hester with 2 points each.
“Really proud of how well Eme Loza and Madison Hall played for us tonight, they both responded well to the pressure and never gave up,” Steinbrecher commented.
