Portland East boys’ basketball closed out the week last week with a lopsided loss to a really talented Station Camp team 60-22. The Bison a very experienced team scored at will on the Panthers and never let East get close. The Bison were able to capitalize on a multitude of Panther turnovers.
“We turned the ball over way too much this created easy baskets for Station Camp,” Head Coach Scott Steinbrecher stated. The Panthers struggled to contain the Bison offense and went into the half down 24-8. Portland knew that to slow down the opposition some changes would have to be made.
Portland would come out in the second half and attempt to gain some control I the game but Station Camp would erupt for 38 points to close the game out.
“We fought as hard as we could for four quarters, but Station Camp is just such a great team this year my hats off to them for this performance,” Steinbrecher stated.
Station Camp was again able to capitalize by a lot of costly turnovers made by East in the second half. “When your turn the ball over that much it is hard to win the game or any game for that matter, we must work on protecting the ball better going forward,” Steinbrecher commented.
Scoring for the Panthers on the evening was: Duncan Smallwood with 9 points, Dawson Kennedy and Hunter Hicks with 5 points each.
“We will be back in the gym working on these areas of concern and opportunity for our team and try to get this to translate onto the court in our games next week,” Steinbrecher replied.
