For the past six years, the Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (CEMC) has held a yearly calendar art contest to determine what student artwork will be part of the upcoming CEMC calendar. For the the 2014 calendar, CEMC has chosen art from several local White House area students.

“We have been doing this art contest for six years and get such a great response from local children,” Barbara Harper of CEMC said. “The region is separated into east and west and the art from White House was outstanding. We were stunned to see so many great drawings come from one single area.”

Eli Creasy, a White House High School sophomore, was the east region overall winner and his artwork will accompany the month of April on the CEMC 2014 calendar. In addition to getting his artwork published in the calendar, Creasy will receive a $175 first prize as an overall winner.

“We picked an overall winner from the east and an overall winner from the west and Eli Creasy from White House was chosen as the best overall of the east entries,” Harper said. “Since his drawing was done while as a freshman, he will be featured in the month of April.”

Rachel Reader of White House High School and Jaclyn Turner of White House Heritage High School, have both been chosen to have their artwork featured on the 2014 CEMC pocket calendar. Both students also will be given certificates of achievement as well as a cash prize to be determined later.

Makenzie Carris (February) and Darian Chapman (June) were both monthly art winners for the calendar. Logan Ridings was an honorable mention winner for his art. All three are from White House.

2012 White House Heritage senior Alexa Mitchell won the cover art contest for the calendar, which will be coming out later this fall.

All winning students’ artwork, name, school name and grade may also appear in an issue of The Tennessee Magazine.

Selected artwork was published in The Tennessee Magazine, which is mailed to over 90,000 members each month in the CEMC service areas and made available to view on the CEMC website.

Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that has been a power distributor for Cheatham, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart and Sumner Counties for over 75 years.

The contest was open to all students, kindergarten through high school, within CEMC’s five county service area, which includes Cheatham, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart and Sumner counties.
