Library gets ghoulish for Halloween

The White House Library will be hosting a series of events during the month of October with a Halloween theme.

Starting Thursday, Oct. 10, the White House Inn Library and Museum will begin teen reading week with a movie kick-off party. The reading week is a yearly event working to get more young adults interested in books.

The movie “ParaNorman” will be shown starting at 6 p.m. with popcorn and soda served at the event.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m., teens participating in the event will be making creepy desserts such as slimy bug swamp and bubbling cauldrons. After making the snacks, teens can enjoy their treats while playing Madlibs.

Finally, on Thursday, Oct. 17, the library will have a pumpkin carving contest. This event also starts at 6 p.m. and there will be a prizes given for first place as well as door prizes given out at each event.

Teens can also read and keep a log of the number of chapters they read. For every 10 chapters, they can enter their name for a prize. Logs will be given out at the kick-off party and must be turned in at the final event. Once logs are turned in, there will be a drawing for prizes.

In addition to the Halloween themed reading week, the Friends of the White House Library will be working to transform the library into the “Library of Terror.” Individuals who are brave enough will be guided through a host of terrifying scenes inside the building.

Tours will be every Saturday in October from 7 until 11 p.m. The cost to go through this thrilling event is $5 per person. Individuals must be 10 years or older to enter. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the new library building.
